Drought Monitor: Remnants of Nicholas Bring Rainfall to Midwest
USAgNet - 09/24/2021

Residual tropical moisture from Hurricane Nicholas, combined with a strong cold front earlier this week, produced beneficial rainfall in many areas, including parts of the Midwest.

According to today's Drought Monitor report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Northwest also received some precipitation, including high-elevation snow, providing limited drought relief.

But in many sections of the country for much of the week ending Sept. 21, dry weather favored summer crop maturation and harvesting while reducing topsoil moisture for newly planted winter grains.

Some of the most significant short-term dryness, aggravated by late-season heat, existed across the southern Plains.

Mostly dry weather also prevailed across the nation’s southwestern quadrant, including central and southern California.
