NASS Reports Indiana 2019 Annual Crop Production

Indiana producers saw record breaking yields in both corn and soybeans, according to Greg Matli, state statistician, USDA NASS, Indiana Field Office.

Indiana corn production in 2018 totaled 983 million bushels, 5 percent over 2017. Corn acreage harvested for grain totaled 5.20 million, unchanged from 2017. The average yield of 189 bushels per acre was 9 bushels above last year's yield and the highest on record.

Indiana soybean production totaled 346 million bushels, up 8 percent from 321 million bushels in 2017. Harvested acreage was 5.92 million, down slightly from 2017. The average yield of 58.5 bushels per acre was 4.5 bushels above 2017 and was a record high.

Nationally, corn for grain production in 2018 was estimated at 14.4 billion bushels, down 1 percent from the 2017 estimate. The average yield in the United States was estimated at 176.4 bushels per acre, 0.2 bushel below the 2017 record yield of 176.6 bushels per acre. Area harvested for grain was estimated at 81.7 million acres, down 1 percent from the 2017 estimate.

National soybean production in 2018 totaled a record 4.54 billion bushels, up 3 percent from 2017. The average yield per acre was estimated at 51.6 bushels, up 2.3 bushels from 2017, but 0.3 bushel below the record yield in 2016. Harvested area was down 2 percent from 2017 to 88.1 million acres.
