Turn Around, Don't Drown!!
By: Indiana Department of Natural Resources - 02/13/2019

Monday and through the night, emergency responders were kept busy helping Hoosiers cope with the flash floods occurring all across Southern Indiana. There were many calls for service from many agencies, including county sheriff departments, city police agencies, fire departments and swift water rescue teams.

Indiana Conservation Officers responded to 26 of these high water related emergencies from yesterday afternoon until this morning. The vast majority of these call where to vehicles that had driven into flooded roadways. That number is expected to rise as people venture out today and try to navigate to work and school.

As the water begins to drain and move, there are places that were not flooded last night that are now no longer safe to cross.

Please do not try to cross these flooded roadways. There are many hidden dangers lurking in that floodwater. The moving water has caused some roads to buckle and wash out. The current can also cause your vehicle to be swept off the roadway. Please adhere to the road closed signs that have been placed on the roadways.

The extra time it takes to navigate around the floodwaters is time well spent.
