Increase Seed Industry Profitability at ASTA Academy
Indiana Ag Connection - 02/15/2019

Purdue University's Center for Food and Agricultural Business is partnering with the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) to present the 2019 ASTA Management Academy March 4-8 in West Lafayette.

Participants of the academy will explore fundamental marketing strategies and the changing agribusiness environment as well as identify and apply management tools to examine profitability. Throughout the sessions, case problems and group activities will allow for intensive interaction and networking between speakers and participants.

"Today's seed industry has proven to be a challenging and disruptive environment in terms of technology changes, the continuous quest for efficiency, and increasing consumer demands," said Michael Gunderson, center director and professor of agricultural economics. "We've partnered with the ASTA Management Academy to help seed industry leaders navigate this disruptive time and reflect on the strategic opportunities in production agriculture, acquire new management skills, and plan to lead changes in their organizations."

Several Purdue faculty members will present during the event including: Gunderson; Michael Boehlje, professor emeritus in agricultural economics; Brady Brewer, assistant professor of agricultural economics; Larry DeBoer, professor of agricultural economics; and Scott Downey, associate center director and associate professor of agricultural economics.

This program is valuable for both experienced decision makers and those new to the industry. Previous participants have represented all segments of the seed industry, including the vegetable/garden, corn/soybean, and turf grass marketplaces.

The program rate for ASTA members is $2,595. The non-member rate is $3,695.
