Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch and the Indiana Office of Tourism Development (IOTD) announced that two matching grants were awarded by the Indiana Tourism Council.

"Indiana Tourism's grant programs are dedicated to supporting initiatives that increase industry effectiveness," said Lt. Governor Crouch, who chairs the Indiana Tourism Council. "I commend the recipients of this year's Destination Development grants for their commitment to enhancing the attractions and attractiveness of their local communities."

The Indiana Military Museum in Vincennes received $250,000 in a matching grant to expand its current museum. Officials with the museum plan to construct a life-size interactive diorama depicting United States military engagements extending from World War I through the Vietnam War era. In the new exhibit, the museum will be able to showcase its vast archive of artifacts, many of which are rare or one-of-a-kind.

The Columbus Visitors Center received $85,287 to create gateways and enhancing streetscapes for a number of neighborhoods throughout Bartholomew County. Culturally significant areas under consideration for this project include the downtown arts district, State Street Neighborhood, Campus/Airport Neighborhood and Shopping and Dining District.

"IOTD's Destination Development Grant Program was created to aid communities who show need and have a desire to make their destination a more desirable place to visit and live," said IOTD executive director, Mark Newman. "Vincennes and Columbus will no doubt put these grant dollars to good use and carry out projects that enhance the vitality of their respective communities."
