Indiana Farm Bureau Members Discuss Agricultural Issues With Legislators

Indiana Farm Bureau members continue to discuss priority issues with lawmakers as the Indiana General Assembly enters the second half of its legislative session.
Clinton County Farmers Joshua Redding and Daniel Cline were among the members who attended the Indiana Farm Bureau Ag Breakfast this morning.
Redding raises corn, soybeans, and wheat and operates a seed business.
“For our area and our community (the potential issue) we’re seeing right now is the rural development that’s going on. How is it going to impact our area? There’s good and bad to it,” Redding says. “Anytime you have development going on, I wonder what are the pluses, what are the negatives of it, and how do you accelerate your community on that side.”
Cline raises corn and soybeans and operates a wean-to-finish pig operation in the southeast corner of the county. It was the first time he and Redding attended the event at the statehouse.
“I think it’s a good experience to talk about these agricultural issues. As a first time, it shows the importance of how being in agriculture and farmers, we need to be more involved and have these conversations with legislators so we don’t get left in the dust somewhere,” Cline says.
Redding says it’s beneficial to learn more about the legislative session.
“Having the ability to talk to legislators firsthand to find out what’s going on in policy, to learn, or to tell them about what’s going on in our community if they have questions,” Redding says. “(the event) is a great opportunity to do that.”
Cline says Indiana Farm Bureau gives members opportunities to advocate for agriculture and communities across the state.
