Indiana's Family of Farmers Donates Food, Freezer to Habitat Home
Indiana Ag Connection - 05/16/2022

Indiana's Family of Farmers (IFoF) has partnered with Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity again this year to donate a freezer and local meat products to LaToya Martin, a first-time homeowner, who participated in the Annual Ag Build at the 2021 Indiana State Fair.

In partnership with the Indiana State Fair, Greater Indy Habitat constructed the home on the fairgrounds during the Indiana State Fair this past summer.

Martin is a special needs teacher at Worthmore Academy in Indianapolis. She attends Good Samaritan Baptist Church and is a volunteer with Prestigious Princesses, an organization aimed at empowering teen girls in Indianapolis through leadership, character and social confidence.

Martin is excited have a home to call her own. She shared that to her a homeowner is much more than one who owns land and property, but it's about building a stronger community.

To welcome Martin to her new home, IFoF purchased over $300 worth of local meats and a deep-freezer. The local meats came from five Indiana farms: Honey Creek Farm, Becker Farms, Fleming Family Beef and Promise Land Farm. Special thanks to Market Wagon, an online farmer marketplace that allows local farmers and food producers to sell their products directly to consumers, for coordinating the farmers' contributions.

IFoF is a collaborative organization consisting of Indiana commodity, government and higher-education organizations, who work together for the betterment of Indiana agriculture.
