Indiana Farm Bureau Strongly Supports Yoder's SB 186

Indiana Farm Bureau strongly supports Sen. Carlin Yoder's introduction of SB 186, which strengthens and reaffirms Indiana's vision for and commitment to agriculture.

"IFB is glad to see a clear state policy on agriculture and farmers' rights. It is encouraging that the General Assembly is supporting the development and improvement of a critical sector of our state's economy," the organization said in a release Tuesday.

"It is equally important that our laws protect the rights of Hoosiers to advance and grow all businesses, including farms, to strengthen Indiana's economy and make Indiana a positive place to work, play and raise a family. Farmers need to be able to choose from all farming and husbandry practices to be successful in raising food, feed, fiber and fuel for this and future generations," the release continued.

IFB said it extended a special thanks to Sen. Brent Steele for his passion to protect agriculture as demonstrated in last year's SJR7.

"we are grateful that Sen. Steele listened to IFB's concerns about the specific language in the proposed amendment, and that any future constitutional protection for farming should include all of agriculture, not just livestock farming. We agree with Sen. Steele that the actions and rhetoric of activist opponents of agriculture make protections a necessity. On behalf of Indiana's farmers, we look forward to working with him on these important issues in the future," the statement read.

The members of Indiana Farm Bureau thanked Sens. Steele and Yoder for their recognition of the importance of agriculture to Indiana's economic well-being, and for their concern and passion for all Hoosier farm families.
