Indiana Winter Wheat Yield Forecast Down
Indiana Ag Connection - 06/13/2018

Indiana wheat growers' yield expectations decreased from May by 3 bushels, according to the USDA, NASS, Great Lakes Regional Office. Wheat production in the State is expected to be 18.7 million bushels. The yield forecast of 78 bushels would be 4 bushels above the previous year.

Wheat condition increased slightly from last month, in spite of storms, but is still rated below last year's crop. Wheat continues to progress behind the five year average, but growers still have high hopes for a good crop come harvest time. As of June 3, winter wheat condition was rated at 2% very poor, 5% poor, 27% fair, 53% good, and 13% excellent.

U.S. winter wheat production is forecast at 1.20 billion bushels, up 1 percent from the May 1 forecast but down 6 percent from 2017. As of June 1, the United States yield is forecast at 48.4 bushels per acre, up 0.3 bushel from last month but down 1.8 bushels from last year's average yield of 50.2 bushels per acre.
