Trustees Approve Names Changes, New Degree Program

The Purdue University Board of Trustees approved the naming and renaming of several programs, areas and facilities, and the creation of a new doctoral program in technology.

For the West Lafayette campus, trustees approved renaming the:

- Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Visual and Performing Arts to the Patti and Rusty Rueff School of Design, Art, and Performance.

- Miriam Peelle Kimmell Laboratory to the Chester V. and Miriam Peelle Kimmell Laboratory in the Hobart and Russell Creighton Hall of Animal Sciences.

In recognition of generous gifts to the university, the board approved three additional namings on the main campus:

- For a $1 million gift from Marshall and Susan Larsen, the Krannert Leaders Academy to the Marshall and Susan Larsen Leaders Academy.

- For a $1.5 million gift from Ed and Beatriz Schweitzer, the Schweitzer Power and Energy Systems Research Area in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

- For a $2.5 million gift from Parker Hannifin Corp., the Parker Wing in the forthcoming new Agricultural and Biological Engineering building.

For the Purdue Fort Wayne campus, trustees approved renaming the:

- Organizational Leadership and Supervision graduate program to Organizational Leadership.

- Department of Economics to the Department of Economics and Finance, and the Department of Accounting and Finance to the Department of Accounting. As part of the renaming of the two departments, the finance program at Purdue Fort Wayne will now be part of the new Department of Economics and Finance. It was previously part of the former Department of Accounting and Finance.

Trustees also approved the naming of the Purdue Fort Wayne Sweetwater Music Center in recognition of Chuck and Lisa Surack and Sweetwater Sound Inc.'s past and current support of Purdue Fort Wayne. The center is housed on the Sweetwater Sound Inc. corporate campus in Fort Wayne.

In other board action, trustees endorsed the creation of a new Doctor of Technology degree program, which is subject to approval by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, and to phase out the system-wide online Collaborative Doctor of Nursing Practice (CDNP) program, which had allowed online DNP programs on the West Lafayette, Fort Wayne and Northwest campuses to independently admit students while sharing course offerings and faculty responsibilities. Each campus will continue to offer shared courses while operating independent DNP programs.
