Indiana Winter Wheat Forecast at 17.4M Bushels

Indiana's 2019 winter wheat production is forecast at 17.4 million bushels, according to Greg Matli, state statistician for the USDA NASS, Indiana Field Office. This report is based on conditions as of July 1, 2019. Some highlights of the Crop Production
Report follow:
The Indiana winter wheat yield is forecast at 67 bushels per acre, down 4 bushels from last year. The July 1 forecast is down 2 bushels from the June 1 forecast. As of June 30, 28 percent of the Indiana winter wheat crop was harvested. The crop condition was
rated 46 percent good to excellent at the end of June, compared with 64 percent at the same time last year. Harvest has run slightly behind schedule to date.
Nationally, winter wheat production is forecast at 1.29 billion bushels, up 1 percent from the June 1 forecast and up 9 percent from 2018. As of July 1, the United States yield is forecast at 51.8 bushels per acre, up 1.3 bushels from last month and up 3.9
bushels from last year's average yield of 47.9 bushels per acre. The area expected to be harvested for grain or seed totals 24.9 million acres, unchanged from the Acreage report released on June 28, 2019, but up 1 percent from last year.
