Indiana Dunes Annual Sand Sculture Contest July 18
Indiana Ag Connection - 07/08/2020

Watch the sand come alive or participate with friends and family at the 23rd annual sand sculpture contest at Indiana Dunes State Park July 18.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. CT on the east end of the pavilion and continues through 11 a.m. or until the field of participants is full. Judging begins at noon, followed by awards at 1 p.m. Teams wanting a jump start may begin as early as 7 a.m.

Thanks to the support of the Friends of Indiana Dunes, prizes will be awarded in three categories. Park volunteers will be judging sculptures for the funniest, most creative and most thematic awards. These three awards will be given to teams with members 15 years old and younger and teams 15 years and older with fewer than eight people.

"The theme for this year's contest is outer space," said Marie Laudeman, interpretive naturalist at the park. "It is sure to be stellar year, and we are excited to see what out-of-this-world creations appear on our beach."

Between noon and 1 p.m., observers can vote for their favorite sculpture for the category of Viewers Choice Award. Participation in the contest is free after paying the standard gate fee of $7 per in-state vehicle and $12 per out-of-state vehicle.
