Indiana Parks Alliance Annual Gathering Oct. 1
Indiana Ag Connection - 09/28/2016

The Indiana Parks Alliance, a nonprofit organization that supports Indiana's state parks and state-owned dedicated nature preserves, is hosting its first annual gathering of friends at Mounds State Park on Oct. 1.

The event, which begins at 10:30 a.m. in the visitors center program room, includes opportunities to learn more about Indiana's natural and historical resources and about the Indiana Parks Alliance.

Activities include: a morning hike to Mounds Fen Nature Preserve with botanist Kevin Tungesvick; talks by Matt Williams, author of "Indiana Parks, A Centennial Celebration," and Fritz Lieber, the great-grandson of Indiana State Parks founder Col. Richard Lieber; a cookout lunch at the Friends Shelter (no charge, though a $5-per-person donation is appreciated); and an afternoon hike to the Great Mounds and Bronnenberg Home, led by Kevin Nolan of Ball State University. Nolan is an Ohio Valley archaeologist with a primary research interest in the Late Prehistoric period (AD 1000-1600) of the Middle Ohio Valley.

Registration is requested by Sept. 23. Register and see a detailed agenda at indianaparksalliance.org/annual-meeting.

Mounds State Park (stateparks.IN.gov/2977.htm) is at 4306 Mounds Road, Anderson.
