Farmers Seeking Re-election to Indiana Corn Marketing Council

Voting for the Indiana Corn Marketing Council's (ICMC) annual election runs August 17-28 at county Purdue Cooperative Extensions Service offices across the state. The ICMC board manages state corn
checkoff investments and determines promotional, educational and research activities that can strengthen Indiana's corn industry.
According to the Indiana Corn Market Development Law, those who vote in the election of directors to the Indiana Corn Marketing Council Board must be an Indiana producer which is defined as: "Any
person engaged in the business of producing and marketing corn in Indiana under the producer's own name."
Any qualified corn farmer unable to vote in person during the election period of Monday, August 17, 2009 through Friday, August 28, 2009 may request an absentee ballot until August 12. Corn farmers can
receive an absentee ballot by visiting his or her county Cooperative Extension Service office or e-mailing mbatalis@indianacorn.org or calling the ICMC office at 1-877-CORN-444.
The state is divided into nine districts with one director representing each of the districts and six At-Large seats representing the entire state of Indiana. This year, ICMC has seats up for election in Districts 2,
5, and 8, as well as two At-Large seats.
In District 2, Dean Eppley of Wabash is running for re-election. District 2 counties include: St. Joseph, Elkhart, Marshall, Kosciusko, Fulton, Carroll, Cass, Miami and Wabash.
Mike Shuter of Frankton is running for re-election in District 5. The District 5 counties include: Clinton, Boone, Tipton, Howard, Grant, Hamilton, Madison, Hendricks, Marion, Hancock, Morgan, Johnson,
Shelby, Rush, Bartholomew and Decatur.
In District 8, David Gottbrath of Pekin is running for re-election. District 8 counties include: Monroe, Brown, Lawrence, Jackson, Orange, Washington, Perry, Crawford, Harrison and Floyd.
Glenn Conner of Peru and Dennis Maple of Greentown are up for re-election in the two open At-Large seats, which represent the entire state of Indiana.
Newly-elected directors for districts 2, 5, 8 and the At-Large seats will serve three-year terms beginning October 1, 2009. ICMC directors can serve three consecutive full terms or a total of nine consecutive
years.
