Dispose of Unwanted Pesticides at 4 Indiana Locations
Indiana Ag Connection - 07/27/2009
The Indiana Clean Sweep Project, sponsored by the Purdue-based Office of the Indiana State Chemist, allows individuals to get rid of up to 250 pounds of weed killers, insecticides, rodenticides, fungicides
and miticides free of charge.
"Disposal of these products can be for any number of reasons," said Kevin Neal, Office of the Indiana State Chemist pesticide investigator and program manager for the project. "Whether the product has
been suspended, canceled, banned or is unusable, opened or unwanted, we'll take them."
Individuals looking to dispose of more than 250 pounds will be permitted to do so, but a fee of $2 per pound will be charged for the additional amount. One gallon is about 8 pounds.
"This is a great opportunity for farmers, public and private schools, golf courses, nurseries, greenhouses, cities, towns, municipalities and county units of government to legally dispose of unwanted products at
little or no cost," Neal said.
After completing and returning the form, labeled, leak-free and safe to transport containers may be brought to the collection site. Materials are not to be mixed and individuals should bring a list of the products
they are carrying and a contact phone number in case of an emergency.
Dates and collection sites for disposal of unwanted pesticides are Aug. 4 in Bluffton at the Wells County Fairgrounds, Aug. 6 in Noblesville at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds, Aug. 11 in Huntingburg at the
Dubois County Fairgrounds and Aug. 13 in Rockville at the Parke County Fairgrounds. Drop offs may be made from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (EST).
