Crop Adviser Award Nominations Sought
Indiana Ag Connection - 09/16/2009
Indiana Farm Bureau and the Indiana Certification Crop Adviser Board are seeking nominations for the Indiana Certified Crop Adviser of the Year Award.
"As farm management and regulations become increasingly complex, it's important to have a knowledgeable crop adviser," said Bob Cherry, who directs IFB's industry relations effort. "It's also important to
recognize those advisers who go above and beyond to help farmers make decisions that affect their businesses."
To be considered for the Indiana Certified Crop Adviser Award, a CCA must be certified in Indiana and nominated by a county Farm Bureau, by an active Farm Bureau member or by the employer of the
CCA. Other agricultural groups may suggest nominations. However, the nomination form must be signed by the county Farm Bureau president.
The nominator must be able to explain how the nominee is exceptional at advising others on crop, soil and water, nutrient and pest management. The winner will receive a $250 cash prize and be recognized at
the Indiana CCA conference in December.
According to the American Society of Agronomy's CCA program website, to become a CCA an applicant must pass two exams that assess knowledge of nutrients, soil and water management, integrated
pest management and crop management; have at least two years experience with at least a bachelor's degree in agriculture or four years experience with no degree; document education and crop advising
experience with transcripts and supporting references; and sign and agree to uphold the CCA code of ethics. To maintain CCA status, a certified individual must complete 40 hours of continuing education
every two years.
A nomination form and additional information are available on the IFB website, www.infarmbureau.org, under the "Links" menu. A paper copy of the form is available by contacting BJ Fields at
317-692-7834. Nominations are due by Oct. 31.
